HSBC BUSINESS BANKING

HSBC had a strategy for small businesses, “Business is personal” and wanted to show that they understood small business people were passionate and dedicated. We all wanted to get away from the cliched images of businessmen (and women) in suits with briefcases at desks and striding across open spaces. Brochures, ads, DM and other material […]

PAPERMATE LIQUID PAPER

Liquid Paper, while no longer used in offices, is still a staple in creative studios where mistakes need to be corrected. These 16 sheet posters ran around London on cross-track tubes and other sites. We encouraged a competition for people to find terrible one letter mistakes that could be corrected.

D&NI

D&NI  is a bespoke jewellery company that designs and makes bespoke jewellery pieces. Their clients are mainly wealthy Londoners who want something very exclusive, but at the same time quite traditional rather than ultra-modern. They also have a large number of Russians living in London as clients from a previous Russia connection. D&NI is a […]

STRATA TECHNOLOGY OIL REFINERY BUILDERS

Strata Technology builds oil refineries and the pilot plants that you need to build (for about £10 million) to check that the big refinery you’re going to build (for about £500 million) will work. It’s highly technical and they wanted an active site that had some technical fun associated with the strata in which oil […]

DARTINGTON CRYSTAL

Dartington Crystal is hand-made glass made by craftsmen in Dartington, Devon. Each piece is individually blown, cut and shaped by a craftsman rather than by machines. It’s expensive and beautiful and to repackage the range Dartington used an image of a famous English painting ( artist name TBA?).  Advertising in quality glossies simply highlighted the […]

RUDDLES BITTER

Ruddles is a grown-up bitter. The campaign idea here was to highlight the idea that it’s not a simple casual drink, rather one you progress to when bored with less satisfying lagers and beers. The thought was style orientated and portrayed several different ways of being ‘ready’.   (ADD underpants version)

BARCLAYS STOCKBROKERS VARIETY DM AND EM

Barclays Stockbrokers Direct Mail and e-mail campaigns are designed to sell ISAs and SIPPs to Barclays customers. The campaigns use several different creative themes in advertising and posters. Variety is portrayed by paint tubes, speed by timers and clocks, benefits by compasses and direction. Here is one DM fulfllment brochure  that used several of the […]

SCHRODERS PRIVATE BANK

Schroders Private Bank aimed to attract the ‘new’ wealthy, younger people who were turned off by the purple and gold images of traditional private banks. They wanted something modern and designer. The first brochure was A3 format and written in a very un-bank style. An early mock up of the design, before it was even […]

BARCLAYS STOCKBROKERS “TIME SENSITIVE”

Barclays Stockbrokers send out a raft of email and DM three, two and one month before the annual ISA and SIPP deadline (April 5th each year). A whole set of communications with timers, countdown clocks and other time devices were used for this campaign. Oven timers clicked down on banners, bells rung and clocks that […]

BANK OF IRELAND

Ireland is a spiritual home to over 10% of the UK population either directly as they’re expatriates, or through relatives and connections. Bank of Ireland sought to offer this group the kind of banking facilities they’d get back home in Ireland. We created a campaign based on the idea that stepping into a BOI branch was like going […]

JIM BEAM

Jim Beam was heavily outspent by Jack Daniels. The brief, when we pitched for this, was to create a cult among early adopter drinkers. We created the notion of it being weird to order a Jim Beam, as everyone was familiar with ordering a JD by name, and illustrated this with old film icons […]

ASDA

Written over 40 years ago in my first job in advertising as a junior writer at Lintas, copy in this recruitment ad for Asda stands the test of. While we were doing the usual supermarket style bomb-burst ads they left me as the junior writer to do a recruitment ad as no one else could be […]

TOY COMMERCIALS

Over the years I’ve worked on loads of toy accounts, from Toy Options to Character Options, from Flair Leisure to RC2/Learning Curve. I’ve worked on boy and girl toys, pre-school and learning toys, games and wooden toys, transformers and many others. If you know the sector you’ll know that’s its very responsive to TV advertising and […]

PERNOD

Pernod suffered from a perception problem. Those of us who knew of it as a French aperitif didn’t drink it over here, while clubbers and pubbers who drunk it in quantity regarded it as rocket fuel, really thanks to its strong taste. This latter ensured that when mixed with things like blackcurrant cordial, cider, even Guinness, […]

ASPECT CAPITAL

Aspect Capital’s campaign to institutional  investors, that’s banks, pension investment institutions, even governments, ran in the financial trade.

BACOFOIL TV & PRESS

Bacofoil has an embossed diamond pattern which gives it greater strength and flexibility. We used this to create a stop-frame animation commercial showing food wrapping itself in Bacofoil to a soundalike of Marilyn Monroe singing ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend’. Press advertising created with art director Sue Linn-Tann took the diamond theme further with […]

THE ILLUSIONISTS. Twitter and YouTube

The Illusionists hardback was launched using Twitter to merchandise a YouTube video highlighting the author reading a paragraph from the book to set the scene for the book’s story of magic, love and death in a Victorian London theatre The video was shot at Wilton’s Theatre in east London, which looks much as it did […]
