Over the years I’ve worked on loads of toy accounts, from Toy Options to Character Options, from Flair Leisure to RC2/Learning Curve. I’ve worked on boy and girl toys, pre-school and learning toys, games and wooden toys, transformers and many others. If you know the sector you’ll know that’s its very responsive to TV advertising and that campaigns tend to be short and inexpensive so commercials tend to be disciplined and relatively simple. Often it involves taking international material and re-editing and re-voicing it – loads of which I’ve done. There is a grammar to toy advertising that involves showing action, play value, toy scale in relation to the child, collectibility, and packaging and doing it in 20 seconds. There are also loads of compliance issues in advertising to children.
